Thanks All for the great turn out at our volunteer function. It was good to see so many new faces who are interested in what's happening around the ARK and buffer zone and interested in the history of the area.
The Waitakere golf club is a brilliant venue and we value being able to use it in this way. Many thanks to Kathy James and her team.
Thanks so much to Ben Copedo and Matt Mannington for sharing their historical findings with us. Both gave wonderful talks and enlarged our understanding of the area
If you want to speak to Ben he is around on Mon mornings at the Old Mill house on Sel Peacock Dr in Henderson.
Ben has been walk about with Mike Siddens and Yvonne Vaneveld in the area to find the old trails such as Gleesons
As a follow up Mike Siddens has indicated that any people who are interested to see, what was, the highest Dam in the Waitakeres can accompany him on an easy 20min walk to see it.
If interested Ph Mike at 833 1838
THE NEXT DAY BAITING is Sat 1st May 9am at the rangers station and we will now move on to bait L and U Blocks having made an excellent start on AN, P and B blocks
Let me know if you can come so then I can allocate you a good line.
Remember to clean and spray your boots.
As we move through these areas keep an ear out for any bird sounds and sightings. We are particularly interested in whiteheads, robins and hihi . Whiteheads fly moderately high and like scrubby Manuka/Kanuka, often in flocks. Robins like wet areas with good leaf litter ( not kauri litter) and come to ground quite close. Hihi are in all locations and have nested high in Kauris
Just to refresh your memory listen to the calls below and look on our website under bird sightings for a look at them. www.arkinthepark.org.nz
