Hi Folks,
There will be no volunteer day in the Easter weekend
The next Day will be Sun 11th of April
Ginger:
A small but very effective group of people Colleen, Ron, Lizzie, Judith and Wim joined me to eliminate the ginger from P13 and the neighbouring rat monitoring line on March 18th and then Ron and his wife finished the task off the next day. Adnan cooked the sausages.
Thus we have successfully tackled now a large number of ginger plants along the length of Te Henga Rd from Unity Rd to Falls Rd corner by removing them physically or painting the cut stumps with vigilant
Open Arts weekend:
Thanks to Kathy who joined Andy and Maj to provide an Ark presence on Sat and Sun mingling with the Bethells Valley people.
Maj reports: "Andy got over $100 from Donations for sausages plus at least five keen new Buffer Zone sign ups. And 71 signatures on the anti mining petition..."
Treasure Hunt:
$105 in donations was received. Thanks to the ever-young Val Lyon and Rhiannon and Tony for cooking the 250 sausages sold to as many children who did the Treasure Hunt; to Patrick and Helen who helped set up, Sheryl Tapp who sold Ark clothing and helped pack up; and the team of volunteers who steered the children in the right direction around the ACW and helped them with the treasure hunt - Mike and Yvonne, Lizzie and Heidrun, Marian, Antony and Vanessa, Jo and Jeanne, Adnan and Gerhard, Judith and Wim
Craig Bleakley ARC says: "Thank you and your team so much for your amazing effort on Sunday that resulted in an excellent day all round. All reports paint the day as highly successful, the treasure trail went well and your volunteers were very helpful across the whole day. The feedback that we received from the public showed that everything came together just as we wanted it, and I hope that Ark in the Park got the response and interaction that you hoped for as well."
Rat Monitoring Results from 5th and 6th March:
Control (ie outside Ark): 77% rats, 13% mice
Ark: 7.3% rats, 8.2% mice
These are worse stats than we have become accustomed to, but it is the time of year when rat populations are at their peak. To see graphs of the accumulated monitoring results over the years, go to:

The red dots in the attached map show the location of the rats.
