Hi All,
The next day is this Sat 6th Feb meeting at the rangers station at 9am.
Thankyou for all your support . We have now finished all our peripheral baiting ( the equivalent of putting a predator fence around the ARK -you can view the map on our website under maps and graphs under baiting progress 209-2010)
Ginger control.
We have tackled mammalian predators and will now turn our attention to weeds. There are few worse than ginger which has the potential to outgrow native species within the forest
A few years ago we successfully tackled large areas of ginger up the Falls Rd corner and on P14 from Te Henga Rd. There are also small plants on P11,12 and 13.
We will go to these areas and dig up small regenerating plants or use vigilant on larger ones or spray. Everyone with a limited vigilant growsafe is welcome or the full growsafe if spraying
Please bring gloves, trowels, small spades, back packs for carrying out small plants.
Wasps
We will need to keep an eye out for wasps now -move slowly on dry ridges. There are antihistamine tabs at the rangers station.
If someone is stung they should take a tab ASAP to stop the itch and swelling but it wont help the pain
The tabs work better if taken before going out
Clothing
T Shirts at $35 with some money to the ARK with each purchase
The best colour to wear against wasps and in the summer heat is white and you might consider wearing a white ARK T Shirt at this time of the year See Adnan on the right in the photo below -unfortunately blue is not a good colour. There is an order form below the photo.
