Hi Folks,
Thanks to all those volunteers who have helped eliminate some large woolly nightshade trees on Ld and surrounds thus giving the bush a chance to regrow.
The Next day is this Sat meeting at the rangers station at 9am. We are going to tackle ginger on the Whatitiri side of line L3. Rain or shine.
Unfortunately this plant pest goes in for about 250m competing with the native species, but the bush is relatively open and pleasant walking.
Because the ginger is right next to natives we will try to dig out what we can and bag the roots. Vigilant will be put on the larger clumps.
Bring gloves, spades, trowels and secateurs if you have them. If you are feeling strong bring a large pack to carry out a bag back to the start of the line for later pick up by the quad. We will need to ford the stream and your spade should be helpful for balance.
*Help 19 Kelston boys tackle Woolly Nightshade on Tues 20th (Extra Handsaws needed )
Meeting at 10am at the rangers station. Volunteers are needed to apply vigilant whilst the boys deal to the Woolly Nightshade on the retired ARC farms and adjacent bush. Wear protective clothing and bring gloves handsaws and loppers if you have them as there is some gorse around the woollies
The boys should be able to make quite an impact, so join Ralph and Lyndell and Adnan and I to aid them. We will be able to go in via the Long Rd end so no river crossing
If you can't come but have a handsaw or other suitable implement we can borrow for ring barking the trees let me know
